FAQ

This is one of the most common questions we get!

Here is the short version: A doula provides emotional, physical, and educational support for a birthing person and their family during pregnancy, labor, and the postpartum period.

Having a doula on your team increases your chances of a comfortable, safe, and satisfying birth experience! You can read more of the evidence behind this here and here.

A doula serves as your coach and guide to help you achieve YOUR goals!

Midwives have medical training, and during the birth process focus on delivering a healthy baby. Doulas, on the other hand, focus on the needs of the mother, offering mental, physical, and emotional support.

A midwife can replace a doctor for low-risk births, a doula would not. A doula is often the person you would see the most throughout the labor process since our primary focus is YOU and your wellbeing.

As doulas, we do not replace a partner, but we can coach them in techniques to help you, encourage them, and give them breaks.

We're there to support you in your right to make decisions about your body, birth, and baby. We won't speak for you or make decisions for you, but there are many ways that we can help!
